Eventual a M 1874 Gras rifle, transformed into a hunting rifle. Serial number: RS 76171 on the left quillon. Bright polished original T-profile Gras blade, shortened, and a large false edge added. First 6 cm are plated. Blade spine is crisp marked with the Austrian makers trade mark and date: Usine de Steyer 1879 (= Made in Steyer, Austria) . Blade tang is Austrian-Steyer maker marked: OEWG. No French inspection markings!. Excellent chromium plated brass pommel. Intact and working mortise slot with a chromium plated external spring. Beautiful checkered wooden grip, riveted to the blade tang. Chromium plated steel crossguard with a shortened forward swept quillon. Muzzle ring with fastener. MRD 17.5 mm.
Excellent and correct shortened and blackened steel M 1874 scabbard with no dents. Serial number: D 88167
Rare and beautiful bayonet, sold between 1900 and 1914 by Manufrance the trade name of Manufacture d'arms et cycles de Saint Etienne(=French arms and cycle factory of Saint Etienne), as a War dagger ("Poignard de Guerre"). Ca. => 95 % of the plating is still intact.
