English No.4 MK II* socket bayonet by Lewisham Engineering.(ABCN34)(K4)(JN61-1)
Enfield 303. No.4 rifle. Excellent parkerized socket and round blade. Excellent blade tip. The socket is marked L.ENG (= Lewisham Engineering ) S376 in a box (=dispercal code Lewisham Engineering) and No.4 MKII* in three lines and a broad arrow. The reverse side is marked 07 over 38 .
Comes with an excellent blackened MkI steel scabbard with no dents. The alloy (Mazac) throat is marked No.4 MKI S 286 (= Dispersal code Vanden Plas) and a broad arrow
Lewisham Engineering at 9 & 11 Malyons Road, Ladywell, London was one of the smallest companies which made the No.4 MkII* bayonet. Between 1943 and 1945 they only produced 84.566 No.4 MkII* bayonets.
Vanden Plas (Eng.) 1923 Ltd., Kingbury Road, London produced 950.000 MKI scabbards. Not many are marked so.
