English M1903 bayonet. (ABCN5786-b)(K 181) (JN 57-1)
British SMLE .303 rifle. Excellent bright finished double edged blade with a central rib. The first cm is blackened. Crown over ER (Edward Rex) 1903 and Sheffield inspection marking very crisp on the ricasso. The reverse side is marked /I\, and a bending mark: X. Blade spine is marked with two Sheffield inspection markings. Opposite is marked with a Birmingham inspection marking. Very nice blued pommel with oil hole and blued crossquard with muzzle ring. MRD 16.5 mm. Pommel and crossguard are showing spots of peppering to light pitting only. Excellent wooden grips secured by two screws bolts. The right grip is marked with an inspection stamp.
Excellent and correct black leather MkI scabbard with all stitches intact. No serieus dents to the bright finished fittings.
Comes with its Excellent and genuine Slade Wallace buff leather (1889) General Service MKII belt frog with brass rivets and a brass buckle, unit marked and makers name stencilled on the back: 5 E S over 339 (= Royal Engineers) by E.THORNTON over ..... 1911 (AC81)
