British army marked WWI Trench latern, by Howes & Burley Ltd. dated 1916.
British army marked WWI trench oil & candle stick latern in a fantastic condition, marked by a British maker and dated: Howes & Burley Ltd. C&M -1916- Birmingham in white letters in an black oval. Matt black painted round housing marked with a Broad Arrow over 22. Door with brass locker and intact hinges. The lit can be opened and folds to the side. 4 intact class panels. The panels are protected by steel bars. Excellent functioning brass oil burner with a working fuse and a separate holder for a candle stick on the oil tank. The burner slides out of the housing for filling the oil tank. Bottom of the oil tank is marked with a Broad Arrow over E marking. Vey nice carry handle with a wooden grip with some treated worm holes.
Howes & Burley Ltd. was known as a Copper & Metal smith and was located in Birmingham, 20-40 Bishop street.
This original, not refurbished British army trench latern was found in the envirement of Ypres, Belgium and is in a outstanding working condition.
A very hard to find item in this condition as many are found in a relic condition.
