Belgian M 1880 Engineers sawback bayonet with rare scabbard variation(ABCN1198)(K364)(JN16-4)
M 1777 -1868 Terssen Engineer rifle. Serial number: 1472 in the mortise slot. Excellent- bright finished fullered saw backed blade with a large false edged. 31 pairs very sharp teeth. There are some stains near the tip only. Ricasso shows date: 1887 and a Belgian inspection mark: Crown over FL in a trilob. Reversed ricasso with German makers trade mark; A.- Scale- C. (= Alex. Coppel- Solingen) and a rampant lion stamp in a box and GB in an oval. Excellent brass ribbed grip with an external spring. Pommel is marked with a rampant lion stamp and Crown over FL in a trilob. Excellent bright finished steel crossguard with muzzle ring, MRD 17,2 mm, and a forward swept guillon. Unit number: V over 3798 on the crossguard.
Black tooled leather scabbard with brass top mount with a brass decorated frog stud. There is a steel staple on the revers side. Brass internal chape fixed with a taw winding. All stitches in tact and no dents to the top mount. Unusual and rare, prob. Home Guard(Side arm), scabbard.
Very nice and impressive sawbacked bayonet with a rare scabbard variation.
