German M 1884/98 bayonet, Second model variation, WWI, by J. MEHLICH A.G.-BERLIN C. (ABCN450)(K0)(JN0)

Mauser M98 rifle and carbine. Second model variation. Excellent bright finished fullered M 1871/84 blade with short square fullers and the German maker name: J. MEHLICH - A.G. - BERLIN.C. in three lines crisp on the ricasso. Prussian Crown over W 15 and a Gothic inspection mark on the blade spine. Reverse side of the blade spine is marked with a G. Bright finished pommel with a T-O slot with some fine peppering only. Excellent wooden grips secured to the blade tang by screw bolts and the hilt with an Excellent dents free flash guard. Left grip shows some minor abuse only. Round oil holes in the grip. 
Excellent and correct blackened steel WWI scabbard with no serieus dents.

In 1915 the first  M 84/98 bayonet models were made with M 1871/84 blades by two companies only: Möve Werke (= Trademark of Walther & Co. Mühlhausen in Thr.) and J. MEHLICH A.G. BERLIN C. 

Quite rare early M 84/98 2nd type bayonet by J. MEHLICH A.G.  in an Excellent - condition!
