German (Bavarian) M 1898/05 n.A. bayonet by FICHTEL & SACHS- SCHWEINFURT. L.'16. (ABCN803)(K256)(JN86-1)
German Mauser M 1898 Rifle and Carbine. Serial number: 4837 on top of the pommel. M 98/05. Second type bayonet. Excellent++ deep blued fullered "Butcher" blade. Very crisp German makers trade mark and name: Two crossed keys and FICHTEL & SACHS over SCHWEINFURT on the ricasso. The reverse side is Bavarian serial marked: m 485. Bavarian cypher; Crown over L ( = King Ludwig III 1913-1918 ) over date: 16 over a Gothic inspection marking on the blade spine. A crisp Gothic Inspection marking on the crossguard facing the blade
Excellent blued pommel, flash guard, crossguard and quillon. A crisp single Gothic inspection marking on the pommel. Excellent ribbed wooden grips with a rectangular oil hole. T-O slot in pommel. Flash guard with no dents.
Excellent++ blackened steel scabbard with no dents.
Bavarian M 1898/05 bayonets are quite rare and this is a very nice example!
This top numbered blued/blackened bayonet was clearly used by the Bavarian Police.
