English M 1879 MKI Artillery bayonet (ABCN1990-1)(K705)(JN53-3)
Martini -Henry M 1879 Artillery carbine. Serial number: 28 on right side of the pommel. Excellent very long bright finished fullered saw back blade. Faint Crown over VR marking, but crisp marked date: 9 / 85 and /95. The reverse side is marked: /I\ over WD, Enfield inspection marking: Crown over E over 59 and obsolete markings: X and RR. The blade spine is marked: W, R and with an Enfield inspection marking: Crown over E over 43. Hilt with an Excellent bright finished single hand guard. Excellent bright finished pommel with T-slot and a crossguard with a muzzle ring MRD: 17 mm. Excellent black checkered leather grips secured to the hilt by four steel pins. Blued external spring secured by a screw. Blade tang is marked with a Birmingham repair marking: Crown over BR over 17 and and the mortise is marked: Crown over E over 51
No scabbard.
This very long impressive saw back bayonet (797 mm!) is hard to find with its leather scabbard.
