Belgian Mauser M 1889 rifle, rifle Cal. 7.65. Serial number T 2846 on the crossguard. Superb bright finished fullered mid length blade. (300 cm.) Belgium inspection marking: VD under a crown in a trilob on the ricasso and a tiny a in an oval on the reverse side. N in a box inspection mark on the blade spine. Bright finished pommel and crossguard with forward swept guillon, marked N in a box. Crossguard is marked: Large A 840 (= Home Guard district: A = Antwerpen. Antwerp. ) and another crisp N in a box. Muzzle ring MRD 17.5 mm. There is some abuse to the blade tang in the grip and also to the top of the right grip only. Excellent wooden grips secured by two screw bolts.
No scabbard.
The prefix stands for a town. In this case the A marking stands for Antwerp.
This very rare mid-length version, with a blade length of 300 mm was used by the Belgian Home Guard (Civil Guard) only. Seldom encountered model!
