Austro-Hungarian Werndl rifle M 1867 and M 1867-77. Bayonet model 1870 Werndl Variation. Serial number: 1323. on quillon. Fantastic bright finished shortened fullered yatagan blade. Ricasso is marked: OEWG (= Steyer made), HW in an oval and an Austrian crest. The reverse side also shows an Austrian Crest. Bright finished pommel shows some peppering on the left side only. Grossguard with quillon. Quillon is Unit marked : R. - 86. over 1323. (= 86th. Infantry Regiment: Freiherr von Steininger. Garrison: Szabadka. Rifle nr. 1323. )Muzzle ring: MRD 18.9. Muzzle ring with spanner on top. External spring. Large press button.
Excellent smooth wooden wartime replacement grips. Variation: unusual fixed to the blade tang by 4 steel pins and not by 3.
Excellent and correct black painted steel scabbard with no dents.The frog stud is Austrian maker marked: JUNG and an Austrian Crest.
Comes with its correct dark brown leather Austro-Hungarian frog as found. (Ref. Antony Carter 29)
These Austrian M 1870 bayonets are getting harder to find! This particular one is the much rarer M 1870 variation with the wooden replacement grips. This replacement was mostly done during WWI in 1914
