US M E1 (Shortened) bayonet by O L. (ABCN351)(K 538)(JN 221-2)
.30-06 M1903 Springfield/ M1 Garand. No serial number. Excellent parkerized fullered shortened blade with US maker's trademark and date: O L (= Oneida Limited, New York) , U.- Flaming bomb- S., over 1943 very crisp on the ricasso. Spear pointed blade. Reverse side is marked: PAL-MOD This indicates that the conversion was done by PAL . Excellent parkerized pommel and crossguard. MRD 15,5 mm. Excellent black ribbed back bakelite plastic grips.
Olive drab painted M3 scabbard with a US belt hook. Top mount is marked: US in a flaming bomb. Reinforced tip.
There are only some user spurs all over the bayonet.
In 1943 the US Cavalry needed a shorter bayonet, there for many M 1905/43 long bayonets were shortened and re-pointed. O L is a very scarce maker.!
Oneida Limited only made 150.00 long bayonets in 1942-43 and is one of the rarest makers.
