Description

English 1796 Pattern Sergeant's sword used by the Royal Engineers. Excellent long straight bright single edged spadroon blade with very simple floral motives and German makers name A.S & Co on the one side and In SOLINGEN (= August Schnitzler in Solingen) on the reverse side. Beautiful plain brass handle with urn shaped pommel and single D shaped hand guard. Quillon with round crown shaped final. Silver foil sheet covered round single piece hilt with two small tears. Non folding clam shells. Excellent and rare all steel scabbard for mounted duty, as introduced in 1819 for the Royal Engineers. Two loose hanging rings and no dents. 
Total length 98 cm width at the ricasso 2.5 cm.
