"Nederlandse Marine adelborst ponjaard M 1888" / Dutch Naval Midshipman's dirk M 1888. Service number 693 and a crossed out other service number 636. Beautiful double-edged blade with excellent etchings on both sides. (Two fouled anchors and dolphins on both sides) German maker's trademark and name E. & F. HÖRSTER- SOLINGEN in an oval on the ricasso. Dutch retailer's name and residence; J. W. HOUFER, SCHIEDAM in a circle on the reverse of the ricasso. Detachable gilt hilt with gilt crossguard and pommel. One piece white celluloid grip and gilt mounts. Hair crack in the hilt. Anchor on the crossguard. Excellent gilt brass scabbard engraved with an anchor and folicate pannels, with two loose hanging rings. No dents to the scabbard. It comes with its belt chain with hanging hook.
Total length dagger: 35 cm.

Service number 693 on blade front crossguard. This is an unique Dutch naval service number. This number gives acces to the name of the former owner.
