Very Good- long straight double edged bright polished, but stained plain blade with the German makers of the Knight helmet logo crisp on the ricasso. (= Weyersberg & Co- Solingen) There is a faint retailers name in a scroll S. de JAGER- HAARLEM etched on the blade.
Excellent brass lion head pommel and a single hand guard. Brass crossguard with a straight quillon with an acorn like final. Brass clamshell, missing its silver emblem. Excellent dark brown horn grip. No wire winding. (Standard models never had a wire winding.)
No scabbard.
The privately purchased Dutch M 1896 Master sword was carried by Officers, NCO's and troopers only, who became a proofed Master in using a foil, a sword or a rifle. This example is a "Standard Master sword". Less luxery than a "Special order" model sword.
This elegant sword was very popular at the Dutch Royal Military Academy (KMA) in Breda and till 1914 also by NCO's of the Jaeger and Grenadier Guard Regiments.
This model, without the emblem was also used by bandsman.
