"Nederlands Infanterie Officierssabel M 1897"/ Dutch infantry officers sword M 1897. Superb long and heavy straight quilback blade with the Dutch proof mark: IJZERHOUWER crisp in a Z scroll on the right side of the blade. No makers name. Excellent++ bright polished (not plated!) steel pierced hand guard with 5 bars, engraved with flower motives. Red felt washer intact. Detachable hilt with a ribbed brown one piece horn grip with an intact brass twisted wire winding.
Excellent bright polished steel scabbard with one loose hanging ring. The scabbard shows some light user spurs only.
Comes with its Excellent Dutch Infantry officers sword knot as found. some minor wear to the black cord only.

This sword was adopted in 1897 and was already replaced in 1912 by a complete different model: M 1912 infantry officers sword. It still has a ceremonial function for officers of the Dutch Princes Irene brigade. A Dutch infantry regiment, founded in England during WWII and active during and after D-day for the liberation of occupied Europe.
