"Nederlands Infanterie Officierssabel M 1897"/ Dutch infantry officers sword M 1897. Superb long slim straight quilback blade and the Dutch proof mark: IJZERHOUWER crisp in a scroll on the right side of the blade. Excellent- chromium plated pierced hand guard with 5 bars, engraved with flower motives. The plating shows light wear only as usual with this model. Red felt washer intact. Detachable hilt with a ribbed black composition grip with an intact silver twisted wire winding.
Excellent- chromium plated metal scabbard with one loose hanging ring and two very small dents near the drag only. The chromium plating shows some light wear (flaking) only as usual
Made around after 1900 and before 1914.
Length 100 cm. Blade width, measured at the ricasso: 1.9 cm.
This sword was adopted in 1897 and was already replaced in 1912 by a complete different model: M 1912 infantry officers sword. It still has a ceremonial function for officers of the Dutch Princes Irene brigade. A Dutch infantry regiment, founded in England during WWII and active during and after D-day for the liberation of occupied Europe.
