"Nederlands M 1852 sabel voor officieren der Schutterijen" / Dutch Home Guard officer's sword M 1852. Excellent- bright finished fullered blade with some small stains near the tip. Dutch retailers name, residence and the Dutch proof mark: Wm. Pauwels & Zoon te 's Hage (= Willem Pauwels & Zoon. Westeinde 317, Den Haag. 1814 -1874) in a scrol on the right side of the blade and the Dutch proofmark EYZERHOUWER in a scrol on the left side. Intact red felt washer.
Beautiful detachable M 1852 Berlin-Silver hilt with a cast Berlin-Silver pommel and a one piece black horn grip with an intact twisted silver wire winding. Berlin-Silver hand guard with a side bar. Crossguard with forward swept guillon.
Excellent bright finished steel scabbard with one loose hanging ring. Scabbard shows a small dent and a two more very small dents only.
Total length 95 cm. Width at the ricasso 2,8 cm.
Comes with its very good Dutch officers sword knot as found.
The concept for this Dutch M 1852 model was doubtless the Russian M 1826 Infantry officers sword!
This Home Guard officers model differs from the M 1852 infantry officers sword in its finish only. The hilt of the M 1852 Home Guard model is always in Berlin-Silver, the Infantry model is finished in brass.
An early M 1852 Home guard officers sword in an Excellent condition. The Dutch Home Guard was dissolved in 1901.
