Dutch Cavalry troopers sword M 1854.(JP 79-120)
"Nederlands M 1854 Cavalry Manschappensabel" / Dutch M 1854 Cavalry Troopers sword. Excellent bright finished curved fullered heavy blade showing light graying only. No markings.
Excellent bright finished steel two bar hilt with a hand guard. An intact black leather vinger loop, secured to the hilt by a screw. Excellent blackened 8 ribs wooden grip.
Excellent early type steel scabbard with a single fixed saddle ring on top. The second loose, hanging ring is officially removed after 1859. The presence of the second loose hanging ring is still visible. The steel scabbard shows some very light user spurs only, but no dents.
Total length: 97,5 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3 cm.
This is an early M 1854 Cavalry troopers sword. The finger loop was added around 1854 and after 1859 the top loose hanging ring of the scabbard was replaced by a single fixed (saddle) ring and the second ring removed. (see last picture)The scabbard shows that the second ring is removed. So, this particular sword was made between 1854 and 1859.
