Dutch Cavalry officers sword M 1854 by P. MANSFELT & Zn. te 's Hage.(JP 79-119)
'Nederlands Cavalerie M 1854 Officierssabel" / Dutch M 1854 Cavalry Officer's sword. Excellent curved fullered bright finished blade with Dutch retailers name and residence: P. MANSFELT & Zoon te 's HAGE. (= Pieter Mansfelt and Son, Denneweg 12, The Hague. 1799-1960), in a scroll on the ricasso and the Dutch proof mark: EYZERHAUWER (old style) in a scroll on the reverse side.
Excellent bright finished steel two bar hilt with a hand guard. An intact black leather vinger loop, secured to the hilt by a screw. Excellent wooden grip covered by grey ray skin.
Excellent early type bright finished steel scabbard with two hanging rings. A fixed saddle ring on top and a second, loose, hanging ring. User spurs only, but no dents.
Total length: 93,5 cm. Width at the ricasso: 2.8 cm.
This is an early M 1854. The finger loop was added around 1854 and after 1859 the two loose hanging rings of the scabbard were replaced by a single fixed (saddle) ring. So, this particular sword was made between 1854 and 1859.
