Dutch Cavalry officers sword M 1854 by J.F. SEEGERS- Breda.Converted model.(JP 79-119)
"Nederlands Cavalerie M 1854 Officierssabel" / Dutch M 1854 Cavalry Officer's sword. Excellent bright finished long curved blade with the Dutch retailers name and residence:. J. F. SEEGERS en ZOON te BREDA, and EISENHAU very crisp on blade spine. Leather washer is intact. Very good bright metal two bar hilt with hand guard.
The leather finger loops were introduced in 1854. This example was original made with a finger loop, but must have been converted after 1870 by removing the the leather loop and closing the openings of the loop and the screw hole in the guard. This conversion is very nicely done and very hard to see. Excellent gray ray skin grip with a double brass wire winding is showing some very little wear only.
Excellent bright finished all steel scabbard with a single fixed saddle ring. There is a small single dent only close to the scabbard drag.
Total length 99 cm. Width at the ricasso 3 cm.
A finger loop was introduced in 1854 and removed after 1870. After 1859 the scabbard loose hanging ring was replaced by a scabbard with a single fixed (saddle) ring. So, this particular sword was made after 1845 and before 1879 when a new cavalry sword model was adopted.
Beautiful Dutch cavalry officers sword and an interesting converted example!
