Dutch M1895 Colonial (KNIL) bayonet with black composite grip. (ABCN 368-1)(K101)(JN146-3)
Mannlicher M 1895 Colonial (KNIL = Dutch Indies army) rifle and carbine. No Serial number. Excellent dark blued double edged slim blade with Austrian makers trade mark: OEWG on the ricasso and a Dutch inspector mark: Crown over S on the reverse side. Excellent+ blued square pommel and crossguard with a hooked quillon and a muzzle ring: MRD 14.5 mm. Excellent and rare black composite trials grips secured to the tang by two large steel rivets.
Comes with a very well made and nice dark brown tooled leather replica scabbard with a retaining strap and brass chape.
Extremely rare KNIL bayonet. A total of 36.000 only were produced and not many survived the tropical conditions of Indonesia. After WWII many were refurbished by Indonesia.A black composite grip replaced the wooden grips as a trials project.
Production of the M 1895 Colonial bayonet started in 1897 at OEWG in Austria. Later production was at HEMBRUG in the Netherlands. The first bayonets were delivered from Austria with a steel scabbard. First in 1911 a brown leather scabbard was adopted.
