German M 1884/98 bayonet, second model. WWI. by E. SIEPMANN & Co. - SOLINGEN.(ABC N 447-5)(JN81-2)(K 140)
Mauser M98 rifle. Excellent++ bright finished fullered blade with the rare German maker's name : E. SIEPMANN & Co. over SOLINGEN very crisp on the ricasso.
Prussian W over date: 17 and Gothic inspection mark crisp on the blade spine. Excellent+ bright finished crossguard and pommel with a T-O slot and a Gothic inspection marking.
Excellent+ wooden grips secutred to the blade tang by screw bolts. The hilt with a dents free flash guard.
Excellent+ and correct blued WWI scabbard with its central placed spring retaining screw. No dents. A German inspection stamp on the finial.
Ernst Siepmann & Co. of Solingen is an extremely rare maker of the second model M 84/98 WWI bayonet. This company only made this bayonet in 1917. Only a few are known. ( Ref: Anthony Carter: GERMAN BAYONETS. Volume II, Page 182)
