German Mauser M 1898 Rifle and Carbine. M 98/05. Second type bayonet. Excellent++ blued fullered "Butcher" blade. Very crisp German makers trade mark and name: Two crossed keys and FICHTEL & SACHS over SCHWEINFURT on the ricasso. The reverse side is Bavarian serial marked: m 485. Bavarian cypher; Crown over L ( = King Ludwig III 1913-1918 ) over date: 16 with a Gothic inspection marking on the blade spine.
Excellent blued pommel, flash guard, crossguard and quillon. Two Bavarian inspection markings on the pommel. Excellent ribbed wooden grips with a rectangular oil hole. T-O slot in pommel. Flash guard with no dents.
Excellent++ deep blued scabbard with no dents.
Bavarian M 1898/05 bayonets are quite rare and this is an extraordinary nice example!
