German Mauser M 1898 Rifle and Carbine.  M 98/05. Second type bayonet. Excellent bright finished fullered "Butcher" blade. Very crisp German makers trade mark and name: Two crossed keys and F. HERDER a Sn. over SOLINGEN on the ricasso. Bavarian cypher; Crown over L ( = King Ludwig III 1913-1918 ) over date: 15 with a German inspection marking on the blade spine. There is also a serial number? on the blade spine: 296 
Excellent bright finished pommel, flash guard, crossguard and quillon. Two German inspection markings on pommel. Excellent ribbed wooden grips with an oil hole. T-O slot in pommel. Flash guards with no serieus dents. 
Very good blackened scabbard . Throat is marked with two German inspection markings.
