German captured German made Chassepot M 1866 bayonet by A. & A. S -Solingen. German altered scabbard. (ABCN1802-2)(K0)
French Chassepot M 1866 rifle. Serial number: 357 on the top of the pommel. Excellent bright finished fullered yataghan blade with a rare German trade mark: A. & AS (= August and Albert Schnitzler - Solingen) crisp on the left ricasso. No French inspection markings but a Solingen inspection marking: Crown over S, on he left side of the pommel. Excellent brass grip with a blued spring. Bright finished crossguard with guillion and muzzle ring. MRD: 17.5 mm. Tightening screw on top of the muzzle ring
Excellent- fieldgray painted steel scabbard with user spurs only, altered by replacing the French frog stud by a German frog stud. No serieus dents. Serial number: R 257 and a very faint, covered by paint, German unit marking.
German made Chassepot bayonets, special this one, made by a very rare maker: A. & AS are not common. These were captured by the German Army during the French-German war of 1870 - 1871 and re-used during WWI. Prob. by a German Landwehr Infantry Regiment.
