Description

Lee Enfield 303 No.4 MKI, PM Sten MK5. Minty bright finished cruciform spike blade. First cm blackened. The blade has an early British inspection marking, made with an electric pencil: Crown over E over 72 /I\. Makers marking on blued shank; G.- Crown- R. , No.4 MK1 and maker's logo: S M (= Singer Manufacturing of Clydebank, Scotland), /I\ in three lines. Reverse is marked: U S 2. Slot is marked SM over '41. Excellent and correct blued metal MKI scabbard, marked No.4 MK I.  /I\ , V on the Mazac throat. 

The bayonet comes in its genuine khaki webbing frog with retaining strap. No eyelet in upper loop. Stamped on the reverse side, hard to read: CA1943 (AC171) and a rare original leather retaining tab as found. 
 
Rare genuine model. Singer signed a contract on 9th June 1941 for only 75.000 bayonets! The very first MkI steel scabbards were made with flat steel throats till March 1941 before the production changed to zinc (Mazac) mouthpieces.
