English Enfield Short rifle; M 1857 Naval Service. German made English Marine Artillery M 1858 sword bayonet.( Patt. M 1858 Naval sword bayonet.) Volunteer pattern. Serial number: 2099 on crossguard. perfect bright finished fullered yataghan blade with British retailers mark: H.H.& Co. on the ricasso and a German makers mark: F.H. in an oval (= Freidrich Hörster -Solingen. 1825-1875) on the blade spine. Length fuller ca. 385 mm. Bright finished pommel with rack number 15. Crossguard with muzzle ring and cock comb. Bar on the barrel model. (Muzzle ring is flush with the blade tang.) MRD: 20.9 mm. Forward swept quillon with round ferrule. Crossguard with another serial number: 2099. Excellent black checkered leather grips, secured to the blade tank by 4 rivets. Typical Artillery mortise slot. External spring is 62 mm long and is secured with a screw.
Very good- rare black leather scabbard with brass mounts and an oval frog stud. Scabbard shows user spurs and the top mount shows some small dents only, but all stitches are closed.

Scabbards with brass grips are rare for this model. Most were used in tropical conditions, but these are also but rarely seen on Volunteer bayonets
Quite a scarce model, hard to find! According to Ian Skennerton a total of 1.500 were made, mostly by Reeves (1.100) and only 4.000 in total by diverse German (Solingen) contractors!
