Description

British Lee Enfield (SMLE) No7 rifle. Second pattern with no oil hole in pommel. Excellent parkerized fullered blade. First 2 cm blackened. little field sharpening only.  Ricasso is marked Crown over GR over date: 11- 14 and the English maker's trademark: JAC (= James. A. CHAPMAN Ltd of Sheffield)Broad arrow and bend test X mark only on the reverse side on the ricasso, but no English inspection markings!. Blued pommel and crossguard. Rare Canadian ownership mark: Broad arrow in a C, crisp on the pommel. Excellent walnut grips. 
Excellent black leather scabbard with an olive shaped frog stud and three rivets. Blued fittings with no serieus dents, marked and all stitches intact. Broad arrow only on the leather body. Chape has a Remington inspection marking: RE.
Comes with a genuine Canadian marked P37 pattern khaki bayonet frog

Scarce Canadian marked early Po.7 bayonet by a rarer maker. 

CHAPMAN is, besides MOLE and VICKERS, one of the rarer makers of the M 1907 bayonet. J.A.CHAPMAN Ltd. made 300.000 bayonets only. A certain (early) part is marked: JAC or J.A.C. and the another (later)part is marked CHAPMAN. (They seem to have switched to CHAPMAN around 1917)
