Danish (Schleswig - Holstein) M 1853 Navy Hirschfanger bayonet. (ABCN 1621-1)(K 964)(JN 0)
Danish M 1853 Navy rifle, M 1853/66 converted to a Snider system. "Hirschfanger bayonet" (very low) serial number: 34 on the left side of the grip, close to the mortise. EXC- heavy long bright finished double edged claiva blade with short median fullers on both sides. A few spots of light pitting and some stains to the blade only. EXC+ massive brass hilt with two short olive shape straight guillons. Top om the pommel, is marked 83 9. Tiny inspection marking: H in a circle on the front side of the pommel. Another faint Crown stamp on the pommel. Mortise slot on the left side of the hilt with a long steel external spring, fixed by a single screw.
Excellent + Black leather scabbard with brass fittings. Top mount and chape are both marked with a tiny stamp: H in a circle. No serieus dents to the fittings and all stitches closed.
5.000 M 1853 muzzle-loading pillar breech rifles and bayonets were purchased by the Schleswig-Holstein rebels at Pirlot Freres of Liege-Belgium in 1850, but only 2.540 were delivered. After the first Danmark - Schleswig-Holstein war, in 1853 these captured rifles and bayonets were hand over to the Danish Navy. Danmark converted these rifles to the Snider system in 1866, designated M 1853/66.

A very impressive bayonet, quite hard to find, special complete with its black leather scabbard.
