English military WWII machete for jungle warfare by Martingdale-Birmingham -1940. (No ref.)
English military WWII machete for jungle warfare. Model No. 227. on blade point. Excellent wide and heavy grey phoforized plain blade with British makers logo: Crocodile and makers name and residence, MARTINDALE - BIRMINGHAM -ENGLAND, in three rows on the left ricasso side. There is also REGISTERED and MADE IN ENGLAND in two rows on the blade. Straight brown two piece composite grip, riveted with 5 brass rivets to the blade tang and lanyard hole. Grip is marked with a broad arrow over 02.
Excellent maintained and complete brown leather scabbard with brass riveted brass raw leather throat.
Leather body is stamped on the reverse side with British maker's name and date: CLIFF. WALSALL 1940 and broad arrow. There is another large broad arrow over 89 on the leather scabbard body. All stitches intact and complete with leather retaining strap. Total lenght 51 cm / 20I inch.
Very interesting machete, used by British commando troops in jungle warfare during WWII.
