Portuguese Dual Purpose M 1886/ M 1904 bayonet frog. (AC389)

Portuguese Dual Purpose  bayonet frog for the M 1886 Guedes - Kropatcheck bayonet and the M 1904 Mauser- Verqueiro bayonet. Very complicated but excellent very thick brown leather bayonet frog. Used by both cavalry and infantry and designed to carry not only the M 1904 bayonet but also to carry other equipment, like plyers, barbed wire cutters and horse shoes. Retaining strap with a brass buckle. Additional cross strap with brass buckle. This is not a hilt strap since it is stitched down to the front and its purpose is to hold for instance a barbed wire cutter in place. Reverse is marked A. E. 
Well made item. All stitching intact and in an Excellent  condition. (Ref.: Anthony Carter AC 389.)
