M 1777 - 1868 Terssen Engineer rifle. M 1880 Engineers bayonet. Serial number: 3474 in the mortise slot. Excellent bright finished fullered sawback blade with a large false edged. A very few small patches showing light peppering only. 31 pairs very sharp teeth. Ricasso shows early date: 1880 and a Belgian inspection mark: Crown over FA in a trilob. Reversed ricasso shows crisp a rampant lion over H in a box and GB in an oval. Blade spine is marked: LD. Excellent brass ribbed grip with an external spring marked: A in a box. Pommel is marked: rampant lion over H and Crown over NB in a trilob. Excellent bright finished steel crossguard with muzzle ring, MRD 17,2 mm, and a forward swept guillon. Left quilon is marked C in circle. Unit marked: V over 3473 on the crossguard.

Very nice and impressive M 1880 sawback Engineers bayonet. An early one dated: 1880.
The rifle started as a M 1777 flintlock muzzle loader and was converted with a back action lock by Terssen in 1868. It was used by the Belgian Engineers.
