Dutch Marine boarding sword M 1818 No.2 (JP 74-3)
"Nederlands scheepssabel No.2, M 1818 "/ Dutch M 1818 Marine boarding sword No.2. Very good bright finished heavy fullered blade, marked with a capital S on the ricasso. The blade shows lots of imperfections, small spots of pitting, rests of tar etc. but can be upgraded. (Hence the price).
Excellent one piece cast brass hilt with a single hand guard and a guillon with a short ball shaped finial. Ribbed grip. Crossguard is maker marked: AR on the one side and the reverse is stamped with a small anchor. There are two inspection markings on the hand guard: L in a circle and a tiny p in a circle.
Total length: 80 cm. Blade length: 67 cm. Width at the ricasso: 3,6 cm.
The Dutch M 1818 No.2 Marine boarding sword was a Dutch assembled M 1803 French briquet. It differs from the Dutch M 1819 infantry short sword in details and it has a fullered blade and not a plain blade. No acorn final on the guillon.
These are quite rare and hard to find.
