Nederlands M 1814 Zware Cavalerie manschappen sabel, Model No.3, / Dutch M 1814 Heavy Cavalry (HC) troopers sword, Model No.3. Superb heavy straight double fullered bright finished blade with a clip point. Intact leather washer. Brass hilt with a sigle hand guard and 3 side bars and a brass pommel. Hand guard is marked with two Dutch inspection markings: Crown over W in an oval (=?) and Crown over T (=?) . Inside of the hand guard is stamped Crown over LT in an oval. (= Inspector Lambert Thonus) Excellent round wooden grip is covered with intact dark horse leather and a complete twisted brass wire winding. Brass pommel is marked with a faint Dutch inspection marking: Crow over ?
Excellent all steel straight scabbard with two loose hanging rings. Scabbard throat is fixed to the scabbard body by two screws. Drag is maker marked: A.M. and with a Dutch inspection marking: Crown over NS (=?) on the reverse side. No dents to the scabbard.
Very impressive and very heavy Dutch (Napoleonic era) HC troopers sword. This model was made in Germany and/or Belgium and purchased by the Dutch King William The First and supplied to his army to be used on the battle fields of Waterloo! against the troops of the French empire Napoleon Bonaparte.
This model was issued to Dutch Heavy Dragoons Regiments (Zware Dragonders/Kurassiers) and is in an Excellent condition.
Total sword length: 113 cm. Widt at the ricasso: 3.4 cm. Total weight including the scabbard: 2,4 Kg!
Very hard to find Dutch sword.!
