French Lebel M 1886/ M 186/93 rifle. Serial number S 19330 on quillon. Excellent bright cruciform shortened blade with French inspection mark on ricaso. Excellent round silver alloy grip, mortise slot is marked 40147. Crossguard with release catch and forward swept quillon. Excellent blackened shortened steel scabbard with typical German pinned tip.
Comes with its rare and modified dark brown German 84/98 frog as found, modified to fit the Lebel frog stud. (AC 310). The oval frog stud has a horizontal cut slot and the retaining strap is removed. Reverse side has a hard to read German makers name and date. L.L.G. over Thuringen and 1941. Very rare and interesting frog modification.
These French Lebel bayonets were shortened by the Germans in WWII and carried by German military and police in occipied France.
