British Lee Enfield (SMLE) No.7 rifle. First pattern with the hooked quillon and no oil hole in the pommel. Very good fullered blade, greying but no pitting. Maker's name; SANDERSON and ER over 1907 and dated 6' 09 on ricasso.(crown mark is faint) Clear British inspection marks on reverse side of ricasso. Excellent pommel and crossguard with muzzle ring and hooked quillon. Pommel is crisp Reg. marked: 1KOSB and rifle number R 928 in two lines on pommel. (=First King's Own Scottish Borderers Regiment !) Walnut grips show wear. Excellent early type London brown leather MKII scabbard, dated '10. Marked Crown and other inspection stamps. Teardrop frog stud and three rivets in the topmount. Metal chape. All stitchswork is intact and no dents to the chape and topmount.
The scabbard is accompained with a rare 1914 patern "London brown" split cowhide leather frog with 6 brass rivets, a intact retaining strap with brass buckle and a leather strap on the back for the helve carrier. (BBF 130) Frog is marked with a broad arrow over 82.
The First and Second Battalion KOSB, during WWI, fought at Gallipoli, on the Somme, at Ypres, Lys, Cambrai and on the Vimy Ridge.
A rare bayonet from a very famous Regiment!
