Martini-Henry M 1856 carbine. No # Excellent bright polished fullered shortened and correct rounded blade. Marked at the ricasso with; /94 and a Birmingham repair mark BR 68 under a crown. Faint Georgian Crown marking. Reverse side is marked E Crown 33, Broad arrow WD and Crown G6 E and a bend mark X. Blade spine is marked K and E crown 33. Very good bright polished pommel marked 8. and crossguard with quillon and muzzle ring (bar on the barrel)with cock comb. MRD bushed to 17,5 mm. Spring and catch are marked with a broad arrow. T slot is marked Crown E 33. Hilt spine is marked J.S. and a Birmingham repair mark: Crown BR 66
Black leather grips with faint checkering are showing wear., Very good shortened black leather scabbard with all stitches in tact and bright polished metal top mount and chape with no serious dents. Total length 465 mm. Blade length 330 mm/13 ins.
The shortening of these long Martini-Henry M 1856 blades was done around 1895.
