German captured French /Egyptian M 1870 Remington Rolling block rifle. Serial number 17106 Matching! in the mortise slot. Very good long bright fullered yatagan blade with German makers trademark: A-Scale-C (=Alexander Coppel- Solingen) on the ricasso. The blade shows small stains only. The reverse ricasso is marked: C in a circle. Excellent brass grip with Remington mortise slot and external spring with no pitting. Excellent bright crossguard and muzzle ring MRD 18.5 mm and quillon with c in a circle stamp.  
Very good blackened scabbard with matching serial number and two dents only is unit marked: 16. L. I. 2. 43 (= 16 Bataillon Landsturm Infantry Regiment, 2. Kompagnie, rifle number 43). New added German frog stud marked with two crisp German  inspection marks. 

A quite unusual captured French / Egyptian M 1870 Remington bayonet with a matching serial number and a Landsturm Infantry unit marking on the scabbard.

In 1870 The French took over some 60.000 Remington rifles and bayonets of the Egyptian 1869 Remington contract to be used during the French-German war of 1870-1871.
After the war these bayonets were captured by the Germans and altered for German 1888 rifles or used as side arms, long before the outbreak of the Great War in 1914.t
